Needles-n-Pins Stitcheries: Upcycle Your Valentine's

So I am sure most of you are really getting tired of winter. Especially if you have been in the cold part of the country. I for one am not having a bad winter at all since this is the first winter since we left Alaska and this winter is a piece of cake. LOL! :)

I know it is only January, but let's start concentrating on some springtime. First thing to think of is Valentine's Day. So let's look at some upcycled items from Etsy that have been made into hearts.

We will start with this rustic red heart from RusticRevelations that they made from a wooden pallet. Turned out really nice.

Now it may still be pretty chilly for some of you and you still need those mittens to keep your hands warm so why not use these mittens from SullysSofties that were made from old sweaters.

This is different. How about a heart necklace made from an old bicycle chain. Pretty neat. This one is from Upcycling4ACause.

Upcycling Mason jars is really popular these days and there are so many different types to make. How about these Valentine's Day jars from MontanaSnow? Looks like that is fairly easy to do.

These are a few ideas of upcycling items to hearts for your Valentine's Day. Gives us a few ideas of how to make some items doesn't it.

Have fun!

Needles-n-Pins Stitcheries: Vintage Valentine's

With Valentine's Day next week I thought we would take a look at some vintage Valentine's and see what Valentine's Day was back in the past. Let's go on over to Etsy and see what we can find. :)

I am sure all of you, well the one's in my era and I am not going to tell you how long ago that was. LOL! We use to give Valentine's cards to our classmates. We would get a shoe box with a lid and cut a hole in the lid and decorate the box. Then on Valentine's Day at school we would have our shoe boxes on our desks and all the students would go around the room and put Valentine's cards just like the one here from bostonbaglady in the boxes. That was always fun. Do they still do this nowadays?

I remember getting little candies, sometimes chocolate, sometimes those little hearts with the sayings on them in these little tins like the one from TheLittleThingsVin here. :)

If you had a Valentine's Day party at your house you might have had a decoration like this one from ChristineMsCreations has.

Ok....now I am going to age myself. We always made Valentine's sugar cookies and my mom actually had a cutter just like this one from StripedKat except we had a red handle on it. And you aren't going to believe this, but I still have it and I still make cookies with it for my grandkids!! :)

So this is a few of the vintage items that is out there for you to see or even purchase to do some decorating or cookie baking. :)

Have a good week!

Needles-n-Pins: Upcycled Valentine's

Moving on with the Valentine's Day theme I thought we would look at some ways people upcycle to make Valentines. And to do that let's visit Etsy.

Let's start with this neat upcycled heart made from tin roofing that ColorTheWorlArt has.

What a great idea on using a vintage Valentine's Day tablecloth to upcycle to an apron like ArtyApronsAndSuch has done here. :)

Ok...here is a perfect jewelry gift for your Valentine or a Valentine's Day gift to yourself. These earring are made from a broken china piggy bank that OutreJewelry made. I think they turned out really nice and it is neat they were made from a piggy bank!

Look at these gift tags from PapelMagico.......they are made from upcycled cereal boxes!! How neat is that!!

So as you can see there are ideas upon ideas of ways you can upcycle everyday items into Valentine's. Great ideas to try. :)

Happy creating!

Needles-n-Pins Stitcheries: Hearts For Valentine's Sewing Projects

Ok.....I guess we can be done with snowmen now and move onto Valentine's Day. I must say I do like all the pinks and reds that you see at Valentine's Day. Makes you get anxious about spring coming. Now....for all the sewer's out there why not make a table runner or placemats for your Valentine's Day decorating. I found this video from my favorite quilting video lady at Missouri Star Quilt Company. Yep....Jenny! In this video she shows you how to make hearts from charm packs that you can use for all your Valentine's Day projects. :)

Enjoy!

Valentine Mug Rug Tutorial

Well we made it to February. Yeah! January is always so hard for me to get through. The holidays are over and nothing exciting is going on except to watch the snow fall so I am always glad to see January go.

Valentine's Day is still a few days away so there is still time to make a little something for your table. I was thinking that maybe you guys would like to make a quick mug rug that doesn't take much time and looks pretty simple so I went on the hunt for a tutorial and found this little heart mug rug tutorial for you from Life, Kids And The Pursuit Of Sanity Blog. This mug rug looks pretty simple and of course......quick. :) I think I will add this to my list of "try some day list". LOL!

Happy sewing!

Upcycle your Valentine's

Still need some ideas for Valentine's Day decorations to put around the house? Why not try some of these upcycled ideas I found on Etsy for you. :)  Our homes can always use a little decorating don't you think? :)

Now this is a different wind chime from Onamesleft. I guess this would be more for the outdoors decoration, but you could use it indoors also.

This would look nice in your bathroom. Very nice accessories from TagsnTwine

It seems that beach glass is all the rage these days. I know people love to have things made from beach glass so I found this suncatcher from HandMadeBeachCraft that you could put in your kitchen window and let the sun shine through it. Now if you are like me up north here you have to wait half the day for the sun to come up! LOL! :)

I know you have a vacant space on that wall in the living room so why not fill that space by hanging this banner from Mixstudio.

I am sure there are all kinds of upcycled ideas that we can come up with to decorate our homes for Valentine's Day, so these are just a few I found. :) Thanks for stopping by!

Have a great week!

Needles-n-Pins Stitcheries: Vintage Valentine's

I love vintage...or in my days we call them "antiques", but I guess vintage is a little newer in dates than antiques. Anyway....I love them both so I thought I would start showing you some vintage and upcycled sellers from Etsy

Since Valentine's Day is this week I thought we could visit some shops that have vintage Valentine's items.

So how many of you remember giving Valentine's cards to your classmates at school? I remember decorating a shoe box with paper and sitting it on the corner of my school desk and then all the students would walk around the room and put the cards in the boxes. Shabbychicskiboutiq has this cute vintage card just like the one's I use to give.

Look at this cute little trinket box from Josefcollector. Every little girl would love to have one of these in my days....oh no....I am aging myself again. :)

Oh remember the Precious Moments craze! They were always so cute and yes "precious". These were great items to collect as there were so many of them. MaryJaneTreasure has several in her shop. I like this cute one.

Look at this vintage Valentine candy box from TheLostRooms. How pretty is this. And it is cloth covered so you really could use it nowadays for storing those vintage Valentines cards. Sounds like a good idea.

Well we could go on and on with vintage items for Valentine's Day, but I will end it here. There are really so many vintage Valentine's out there for you to see so have fun.

Have a great Valentine's Day!

Colleen :)

Needles-n-Pins Stitcheries: Making Valentine Cards

Valentine's Day is just around the corner so we need to get busy making on those Valentine's hearts. If you want to use up some of that stash of fabric you have here is a video from Missouri Quilt Company showing ways to use those scraps to make Valentine's,  that are cute and easy. This is a project you can have the kids help with too. :)

This looks pretty easy! Wish I would have seen this when my kids were at home. :)  Hope you have fun making these.

Happy creating!

Needles-n-Pins Stitcheries: Valentine Fabrics

Well Valentine's Day is just around the corner and if you are like me you are scrambling to get some new items made. Why do I always wait to the last minute! AHHHHHH!!!!!

So if you are gearing up to make some items why not check out these Etsy shops for your fabric needs. There are so many great shops to choose from. I buy locally when I can, but if I can't find what I need I always go shopping on Etsy and always find what I am looking for.

So here are a few that I found.........

Carol Ann at fabricsandfrills has this great bundle of matching Valentine's and reds.

How about this great jelly roll fabric from Jambearies. Looks like lots of different Valentine's fabric in this roll.

Now I am partial to country and patchwork so this fat quarter from FabricGiantUSA really caught my eye. I make lots of pot holders and I thought this would make a nice set of those.

Oh I would love to make a pillow out of this picture from mermaidsfabric! It would have to be a small pillow, but how pretty. :)

And last Valentine's Day wouldn't be complete without hearts...and pink hearts at that. I really like this fabric from fabricalacarte. You could use this fabric to make just about anything.

So no matter what you want to make for Valentine's Day let's get started and start sewing! :)

Happy sewing!

Colleen :)
