Needles-n-Pins Stitcheries: Travel Time

July is a big travel month for a lot of people. Still plenty of summer left and the kiddo's still have a few weeks off before they start back to school. When my kids were home we took a "family" vacation every year and traveled to explore a new part of the country. We went to see many of the National Parks and National Monuments in the western part of the country since we lived in that area. Now....if you were like me I use to get a post card from everywhere we visited. Hmmmmm...........wonder what happened to all those post cards I picked up. LOL! Well I thought we would go back in time a little bit and take a look at some of the places we visited and get a "vintage" post card from them. :)



One of the best places we visited and I am sure many of you have been there also was the Grand Canyon. We actually hiked to the bottom of it! Oh the days when I was able to do that.....not anymore. (ha!ha!) This post card from XtraThings shows all the pretty colors of the canyon. 

Now I am sure a lot of you have been to Mount Rushmore. Very impressive, especially when you drive around the corner and whammo.......there are these huge faces on the rocks! This card from LeesburgVintage shows those faces. 

This post card from JACKIGO shows one of the most famous National Park.....Yellowstone. That place is amazing! It has so many different natural wonders that you won't find anywhere else. Actually my daughter and her family just came back from visiting there last week! She said it was still just a great as when she was a kid. :)

One of the last vacations we took before the kids headed off to college was Glacier National Park. It is a very pretty drive over the top and looking at the glaciers. Now.....I must say and I am sorry to say....but now that I live in Alaska and I have these massive glaciers all around me the one's in Glacier National Park aren't quite as big, but years ago when we visited there they were pretty neat. This vintage card from chantaleylace shows some of the magnificent peaks in that park. 

I hope you enjoyed the journey back in time to see some of these wonderful wonders in this country. Hmmmm....makes me want to go on a vacation down there again. :)  So if you are still headed out on vacation have a wonderful time and enjoy!

Jacquie's Up-Cycle Nation: Travel Crafting

Travel can often leave the crafter's hands idle- a fretful state for the creative mind!  But with some old clothing and fresh ideas, those miles can be productive.

 

In my closet I found two jackets that I love but discovered that the moths love even more. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr. 

Both being 100% wool, these fabrics are perfect for small travel projects.  Cutting 5x5 squares makes for grab and go ease.

The supply list is simple and air-travel friendly.  These supplies have been TSA-approved at airports across the world.

This trip I am bringing along the instructions to make little dogs.

Because I like to travel light, I traced the pattern and took a pic of the instructions to store in my iPhone.

 A quart sized Ziploc baggie of fiberfill is enough stuffing to create a full kennel.  With all necessary supplies packed up and stored in my carry-on bag I am ready for in-flight fun (and as it would turn out: delayed flight blues).

Hand stitching these wee critters made my travel time fly right by and kept my twitching fingers steady!  Now I can say I made lots of new friends in the airport ;)
