Organizing --- Craft Room Feature, Barb's Heart Strokes
Hope you are enjoying our craft room series. Here is another craft room for your viewing pleasure. Today's guest is Barb from Barb's Heart Strokes.
"Hi my name is Barb of Barbsheartstrokes. I have been painting for about 17 years. When we moved from Las Vegas here to Utah I insisted on a room of my own. So I go the partially finished bedroom and a large unfinished area in the basement. In my room I have an area to paint, an area for books and supplies and I have the computer in this room too. (This helps me monitor my kids on the internet.) In the other room is where I store my frames, do a bit of light sanding and staple screen to the frames. Love my air compressor! This is also where I spray the finished artwork with a sealer. It is not pretty but it doesn’t matter if you spill paint on the floor here!" And now for the tour.

Book Storage
Computer Area and More Storage
Barb is lucky to have a second room to store all her frames.
And do the finishing work on her frames.

Organizing ---- Craft Room Feature, Mrs. Kwitty's Cottage
I have another craft room tour for you today. This work space belongs to Karen of Mrs. Kwitty's Cottage.
"Hi,
Studio Crafting Side
Thanks, Karen, for sharing your beautiful craft room with us today.
"Hi,
I do a bit of different crafts: sewing, embroidery, stuffies, stamping, etc.
but since having been diagnosed with cancer a couple years ago, mostly I've been
doing a lot of paper crafting. Things that I can sit and do, and stop and start
easily without too much prep time...you know, creating beautiful things is
therapy. Soothes the soul and just makes you feel good.
I like to make tags, a little mixed media collage (especially if I can
find a cool old frame or letter rack or box or something to do it in/on) and
bookmarks. I love to read and bookmarks are fun to make and give and USE! I
also love to make beautiful things for people and then really "do up" the
package when I wrap it. A unique wrap with a cool tag makes me happy :o)
The things I do have a sweet cottage/shabby feel. Drawn to soft / retro
colors and prints with vintage appeal.
Please stop by the Cottage and have a peek, I'll be happy to see you.
Smiles, Karen
Here is a look at Karen's craft room.

Organizing ----- Storage Solution for Small Closets
Today we have a guest poster, Lisa, who writes on the subjects of home improvement and urban living.
Storage Solutions for Small Closets
There’s a reason so many new homes are built with large, walk-in closets. Small closets simply aren’t desirable or practical. If you live in an older home, apartment, or loft, however, you may have to deal with trying to store all of your clothes and related items in small closets. Luckily, there are ways to increase the amount of usable space in your closet and avoid closet clutter and overcrowding. Here are some things you should consider doing to make the most of your tiny closets:
Trim the Fat
Every six months or so, take everything out of your closets and make two piles: one pile of things you’re going to keep and one pile of things you’re going to give away. It’s a fact of life that you won’t be able to hold on to every single thing you ever purchase. So, get used to getting rid of what you don’t need regularly, and you’ll always avoid clutter in your closets and home, no matter how much space you have.
Reach for the Sky
There are usually a few extra feet of wall space at the top of every closet. Consider adding some shelves, hooks, or pegs up there to increase the amount of usable space you have in your closets. Likewise, you might want to add a few extra shelves near the bottom of your closet walls. Shelves may look a little awkward there, but they’ll be very useful. Plus, it’s not like you’re going to have to enter your closet in a beauty contest or anything.
Get Some Space Bags
There’s no need to hang up out of season clothes in your closet. Get some Space Bags or similar bags to store clothes, blankets, and other cloth items when you aren’t using them. This can save you a whole lot of space in your closets. Plus, you can even store Space Bags under your bed, which frees up even more space in your closets.
If worse comes to worst, you may have to resort to storing some of your excess belongings in your garage or basement. If you do decide to store things in these areas of your home, make sure you keep everything organized, and always try to regularly assess what you want to keep and what you can let go.
Author’s Bio: Lisa is a guest blogger on the subjects of home improvement, urban living, and the proper use of storage units, particularly storage units in Colorado Springs and storage units in McAllen.

Organizing ----- Green Cleaning Product Recipes
With all the toxins in our lives, it makes sense to make your own cleaning products. Did you know that white vinegar kills most mold, bacteria and germs? Many homemade green products contain vinegar.
These are some of the cleaners we use in our home.
Drain Cleaner
Pour 1 cup of baking soda down your drain followed by 1 cup of hot white vinegar. Let sit for five or 10 minutes and then flush with hot water.
Caution: do not use this method after using a commercial drain opener--the vinegar can react with the drain opener to create dangerous fumes.
All Purpose Spray Cleaner
Fill a spray bottle with half vinegar, half water and 1 teaspoon of dish detergent.
All Purpose Cleanser
We use baking soda in place of cleanser. Just sprinkle baking soda on pots and pans, sinks, bread boards,
etc. Wet with enough water to make a paste and scrub.
Do you have a favorite homemade cleaner that works for you?

Organizing ----- Fabric Folding and Storage
I have been folding my fabric over cardboard which ends up kind of messy. You need pins and cardboard or you can buy plastic boards to fold it over but this method is free and easy and so much neater.

Organizing - Keeping Your Cords In Order
I am one of those people who can't stand having a mess of wires and cords behind the computer and tv. I have most of mine either bundled with rubber bands or those velcro ties that you can purchase. Today I found some more ideas to keep those cords more organized.
This is a clever way to label your cords so you know which one is which. Read more about it at... www.apartmenttherapy.com
How about a homemade charging station to keep all your devices organized and charged without a mess.
Find out how it's done here... www.allyou.com
Here's a way to keep those cords from falling behind the desk when they're not in use. www.apartmenttherapy.com
How about a storage box made just for your cords using empty TP rolls. They could be easily labeled and are kept neat and under control. Find more info at www.storageandglee.blogspot.com

Organizing - Craft Closets
I think a lot of us have been busy re-organizing our craft spaces since the holidays are over. I've been meaning to get to mine lately and haven't gotten to it yet. I need some inspiration.. or something.
We've featured a few different craft rooms in the past, so this time around, I'm featuring some craft closets. Hopefully this will spark some inspiration for me... and maybe you too... if you need it.
The first one I found was this craft closet at www.bhg.com

This one's from www.juneatnoon.com and it's so cute. I love the curtain, you could close it when you weren't using it, or in my case, when it's messy.
This one's really girly with the pink. I love the use of hanging storage. The idea comes from www.meelikey.wordpress.com
Last, but certainly not least, I found this great closet at www.gwennypenny.com. Be sure to check the link as there are other photos.
Thanks for joining us today. I hope you're inspired.
See ya next time!

Do you find that cleaning up after the Thanksgiving Dinner is more stressful than making the meal?In the video below you'll find some good tips on how to cut down on post-Thanksgiving dinner clean up.
I won't be washing the dishes exactly the way this guy does... I'm thinking my dishwasher will do just fine. :-)

Organizing - Keep Your Lids Under Control
I'm not sure about you, but the space where I keep my plastic lids is just out of control. I have our lids in a drawer and we literally just dig through it, when we need a one. Getting this space under control is definitely on my to-do list.
Below you'll find some helpful tips from Marilyn Bohn on getting your lids under control.

Organizing - Meal Planning Ideas
Planning meals ahead of time can be a real money saver when you shop for groceries. When you receive your weekly grocery ad you can sit down and plan your meals gauged by what's on sale. Just think of the money you will save.
I found some really great meal planners that you can make and/or print. Really clever stuff here...
The first one is from www.theprojectgirl.com. She had two different versions that are available to download and print, this is one of them.
This next one is also a printable file you can download and print from www.familyfun.go.com. It' really cute.
Not interested in a printable? Do you sew? This might be the one for you. You can find out more about this one at www.littlebiggirlstudio.blogspot.com
Next is this adorable menu planning board made from a cork board. This one is nice as it could be made to match your decor. You could put sturdy magnets on the back and hang it on your fridge. You will find the instructions here www.allthingsbeautiful-charity.blogspot.com
Hopefully one of these ideas will inspire you to make your own meal planner.

Organizing Craft Paints
If you're a painter, you've probably had the problem at one point or another of where and how to store your acrylic craft paints. I'm not a painter, but I do have some craft paints and when I need them they're easy to find, but they're not the most organized things in my house. I keep them stored in a plastic ice cream bucket under the kitchen sink. (please don't laugh)
Rather than suggest that it's a good idea to you keep your paint in a bucket, I searched the internet for some better ideas. This first one I found, is one that I love... an old coke crate. I found it at www.funkyjunkinteriors.blogspot.com
The next idea I ran across was using a small shelf, this one shown fits on a table top and is just the right size. Storing the bottles on their sides is a great idea so the colors are easily seen. This idea is from www.dotcalmvillage.net
The pre-made metal spinners look like they would really handy. Kelle Arvay shows us hers on her blog, www.twodancingcrows.blogspot.com. I like the way she has the colors written on the lids. What a great way to eliminate the guess work of finding the correct color.
Hopefully these ideas will inspire us to be more organized with our paints. They're certainly more appealing that my ice cream bucket. ;-)

How To Clean Your Iron
I have two irons, one for clothes and one for craft projects. The one I use for craft projects really takes a beating.
I honestly didn't think it could EVER be clean again until I saw this video. Quickly, I tried her tips on my cold iron and you know what? It actually started to come clean. I think with a little time and some elbow grease, it might be nice enough to use on clothes again.
