Needles-n-Pins Stitcheries: Vintage Fall Leaves

Fall is in full swing in my part of the country. Leaves are turning now and the nights are getting a little crisp. Yeah....my favorite time of year. Speaking of leaves....I thought this week we would look at Etsy to find some vintage fall leaves that you might want to use for your fall decorating. :)

Over at EBS Vintage Home I found these really pretty leaded glass fall leaves. You could lay them on your table or even put them in a flower arrangement.

These three bowls from BlueSeptemberRain would really work nice for nut and candy bowls and you can add them to your decorating.

Look at this adorable little mouse that I found from Ihaveoldstuff. I am not partial to mice, but this guy is really cute. :)

And Fall decorating would not be the same without a nice fall scene painting on your wall. How about this one from Vintage Inquistor.

These are few fall leaf items I found. I just love all the fall colors and love sewing and decorating with them.

Happy decorating!

Colleen :)

Needles-n-Pins Stitcheries: Fall Decorating and Hurricane Vases

Well made it to September and the start of my favorite time of year. I LOVE FALL! I love all the colors of autumn and all the decorating, sewing and crafting you can do during the fall. I thought we would start with some fall leaf decorating with hurricane vases. Amanda Jane Brown shows us how she made a fall decoration using hurricane vases, candles, corn and leaves. Looks really nice and "easy". Yep....my kind of project. :)

So get started on your fall decorating with a nice centerpiece like this.

Needles-n-Pins: How To Make Fall Leaves

I think one of the prettiest things about fall is all the colors of the leaves and plants. There are so many trees and different leaves and they all turn a different color. Bringing those leaves and colors into your home for your fall decorating can really add a splash of color to your home.

Since I love to decorate for fall I was looking for ways to make some fall leaves and thought I would share some of the ideas I found with you.

Now I am a crocheter so I thought I would start with this one. Craftstylish has this great tutorial on how to crochet these cute leaves.

Burlap items are very popular right now so I thought...hey....why not make some fall leaves out of burlap. Fox Hollow Cottage will show you how to do this.

Looks at these pretty glittery leaves! And they are sooooooooooooo easy to make!  6th Street Design School will show you how to make these. I think I could even do this! :)

My true love is quilts. I love to make quilts and quilted items although time restraints keep me from this at times. Here is a great tutorial from Buttons And Butterflies on how to make quilted fall leaf pot holders. I think I will try this one myself.

Looking at all these tutorials really makes me want to get started on making some fall leaves for my decorating. Hmmmmm.....which one should I start with....let me see. :)

Happy sewing and crafting!

Needles-n-Pins Stitcheries: Preserving Fall Leaves Video

Well fall is definitely upon us up here in the north country and I am thinking a lot of you are starting to get some leaf color also. I know that certain parts of the country have gorgeous colors of leaves in the fall and I wish I had those up here. We do get a lot of pretty ground color, but the leaves are mostly yellow and gold.

Now...for those of you that have all those pretty leaves and would like to learn how to preserve them for fall decorating I found this video from Frank Knowles to show you. I am a visual person so I always like videos to show me how to do things.

Maybe I could use this technique on some of the ground leaves we have. I think it would work with the crimson fireweed we have. Hope this video helps you with your leaf preserving. :)

Happy crafting!

Colleen :)

NEEDLES-N-PINS STITCHERIES: INCORPORATE NATURE’S BEAUTY INSIDE AND OUT

Fall is my favorite time of year. I just love all the colors of fall and the beautiful leaves. Although our fall up here in the north country isn't very long and I do not have a lot of the items that are available for decorating, I still love decorating for it and watching all the colors come out. So for all of you who decorate for fall here are a few ideas for you.

Fall is the perfect time of year to use nature’s bounty in decorating. Mother Nature can provide some of the best in fall decorating. Pumpkins, gourds, mums, corn stalks and straw bales will create rustic, simple displays for your country/primitive home.

Adorn your fireplace mantel, cabinets or windows with a garland made out of dried fruits, colorful leaves and walnuts.

When setting your table create different displays. Group squash of different colors and put them down the center of your table. Fill wooden trenchers with colorful fruit. Use a fall candle mat to show off a pumpkins spiced candle.

Simple displays for outside your home can be accomplished also. Focus on your porch or entryway  to create eye-catching displays. Group pumpkins and gourds along with bales of straw and corn stalks and place on your porch.  Have an old wheelbarrow? Fill it with pumpkins, gourds and Indian corn. Wrap your porch or fence posts with corn stalks and fall themed ribbon. Finally fill bushel baskets or crocks with colorful mums in bright yellow and orange. Place on your porch, or next to your front door.

Mother Nature has the most beautiful colors to decorate during the fall season! Hope this gives you a few extra ideas for decorating.

Have fun decorating!!
