Spring Decorating

Today is our last week before the beginning of spring. There are so many beautiful, fresh ideas to help freshen your home. No matter what your decor style is, flowers are the perfect way to enjoy fresh and fragrant color.

Set up a cut-flower station that's just as pretty when not in use. Fill a few shelves on a bookcase or open cupboard with your favorite vases, pitchers, floral buckets, mason jars and a basket of supplies (twine, scissors, floral frogs), and you'll never have to go scrambling for a vase again. For bonus style points, keep at least one of the vases on display filled with fresh flowers and organize by color, shape or material.

Needles-n-Pins Stitcheries: Celebrating The 4th of July

The Fourth of July is sneaking up on us. It is this Friday! I thought you might like to see some great 4th of July items from Etsy that you can use to decorate your house and get some ideas for next years decorating Americana and patriotic. To all our "international" followers even though you do not celebrate the 4th of July you can still use the red, white and blues to decorate your homes too. :)

So here are a few Etsy shops that are celebrating Independance Day........

Marilee at SimplyMarilee has this great Stars and Strips burlap pillow. I have the perfect chair that this could sit on.

I love the colors in this tablerunner from MerryfieldArts. I can see this sitting on your table with an antique crock full of little flags sitting on top of it. :)

Next we need to fix up those kitchen windows in our patriotic decorating. How about using these curtains on that kitchen window. They are from BJSCountryCharm

Earlier I showed you a shop with the tablerunner. Now if you don't want to put a crock on the tablerunner how about a nice wooden bowl with these bowl fillers from SideLineQuilts. They would look real nice on that tablerunner.

Now if you really want to put some color on your wall with a beautiful Americana quilt this vintage schoolhouse quilt from FondRecollections should work good for you.

So if you want to really be patriotic and decorate to the top with all Americana or just add a little red, white and blue the shops on Etsy have everything to fit the bill for your decorating ideas.

Have a great 4th of July!!

Needles-n-Pins Stitcheries: Don't Take Decorating So Seriously

The items you collect tell a story of who you are and where you’ve been. When you walk into your home, you should be surrounded by the things that you love. A room should make you feel comfortable and happy.

Don’t let others dictate your choices or style of decorating. One person’s idea of decorating may be different than another’s.

It is okay if your home is not furnished in period antiques. It is okay to have reproductions and to work authentic pieces in when your budge permits. Don’t have a room that is so perfect and formal that you stand on edge for fear of disturbing the perfection of it. You don’t live in a magazine. You live in a real home. Make sure your home is comfortable for you and your family.

Not every room has to have the same theme. One room can be decorated in primitives with the next room being country-themed. If you want to decorate your bedroom in floral designs, then do it. That is the fun of decorating. You get to do it the way you want to.

You should never buy items just for the sake of buying them. Make sure you love what you buy and always be confident in your choices.

Everyone’s home is unique in its own way. You may see someone’s home and decide that it is not your “cup of tea”. Don’t criticize. Every home is as unique as the homeowner. That is what is so wonderful about decorating. No two homes are alike. Don’t take decorating so seriously. I am not the world's best decorator, but I must say our house is "lived" in. It is comfortable and it is "home".  Have fun with what you have! :)

NEEDLES-N-PINS STITCHERIES- MAKE IT AMERICANA

You may call it Americana or Patriotic, but for us in the United States we call it Independence Day!! In honor of the Fourth of July this year I thought I would share this Americana decorating idea with all of you. I read it in the The Country Register of Minnesota.

When you think of Americana, all things red, white and blue come to mind. Bringing the patriotic spirit into your home can be as easy as hanging an American flag. Incorporate a few of these ideas to give your home warmth and style this summer. :)

Early American décor, such as spinning wheels, vintage quilts, historical documents and presidential portraits will give your room a historical look and patriotic feel.

For a rustic/country-inspired look, add primitive folk art – flags, stars and folksy motifs in red, white and blue. Amish barn stars, rusty star garlands, a rustic wooden flag and small American flags tucked into crocks or baskets will complement any room and add instant flair. Place a potted red geranium in a small crock for an instant pop of color.

If the traditional colors of red, white and blue do not flow with your décor, try using slightly different shades like burgundy instead of red, antique cream instead of white or country blue instead of the traditional blue.  Use coffee stained table runners, linens or other items in patriotic themes to tone down the colors. This will give them an antique or primitive look.

Showcase your items against a neutral backdrop. Displaying them against a wallpapered wall will only create a busy scene. Your collections will already be colorful by themselves. Put them up against a neutral background so they can take center stage. Americana is based on the simplicity of country. Keep it simple.

Remember, patriotic décor does not have to be just for the Fourth of July. Our love of the past goes hand-in-hand with celebrating our country’s birthday. Hope some of these ideas inspire you to get busy decorating your home to celebrate the wonderful holiday of our independence.
