Needles-n-Pins Stitcheries: Creating An Outdoor Herb Garden
This time of year gardens are growing everywhere. There are flower gardens and vegetable gardens just growing in the sunshine. So how about a herb garden. I know many people grow their own herbs and my daughter just started a small one herself. Spring Garden Clean Up
With the temperatures warming up and everyone having been cooped up all winter, we are all itching to get outside. Needles-n-Pins Stitcheries: Let's Plant Those Gardens
Now that Easter is over, and I hope everyone had a wonderful day, it is time to start thinking about those gardens. Flower gardens and vegetable gardens both need some planning. So let's get started.....
Some people have lots of room to have gardens and others don't. If you are limited on space or just want some cute ideas for containers check out Listotic for some really neat ideas for planting flowers and even an herb garden.
Now if you are like me and getting to old to crawl around on the ground to tend your garden why not try a raised bed garden. My brother does lots of these as he doesn't have a lot of room in his back yard. It is amazing how much he does grow in one of these. The The Owner Builder Network has plans for building this raised garden.
Some of you, like me, live in the north country so you have to take extra steps to have flowers and vegetables. The ground doesn't warm up like other places so it is hard to grow these so most of us have greenhouses. Over at Living Green And Frugally you can learn how to build a simple greenhouse. Check it out. :)
And lastly we need to know how to plant our gardens. And as you can see from Moms Need To Know there are some plants that don't like each other so we need to know how to plant them so they play nicely together. :)

Needles-n-Pins Stitcheries: Save Your Easter Lilly
My wonderful husband has always given me an Easter Lilly every Easter for the past 43 years! It blooms so nice for a few weeks and then dies back. I have always wanted to be able to keep it and save it outside, but I live in the north country. I thought maybe some of you in the "normal" weather might like to know how you can keep your Easter Lilly.
Try planting your Easter lily in full sun in your garden, and with luck,
it just might blossom again in late summer.
It will not survive northern winters outside, so in the fall, you can dig it up, report and let it rest for 2-3 months in a cool location (35-50) with filtered light. Maybe put it in basement.
Cut the dried stems back to two inches. About January 1st, bring the Easter lily out into bright light, but not direct sunlight.
After it greens up, transfer it to a sunny window to force it into bloom. Water and fertilize as needed, and turn the pot to keep the plant growing straight.
If you are lucky this might just work for you. Me......I have to wait until Easter to get another one. Hopefully hubby doesn't forget. :)
