We all can use some organization in our lives. Clutter can be very stressful. My tutorial for today is a great way to keep your CD's organized in your car. It is very easy and quick to make.
Car Visor CD Holder
Supplies
You will need:
2 pieces of fabric, 13 inches long by 6 inches wide (Choose any colors you like. This is a great project for leftover scraps of fabric.)
1 piece of cotton batting 13 inches long by 6 inches wide
8 pieces of fabric, 8 inches long by 6 inches wide
2 pieces of fabric 2 inches wide x 19 inches long
2 - 6 inch pieces of elastic, 1/2 inch wide
Some matching 1/2 inch double fold bias tape
Thread
Directions:
1. Place one of the 13 x 6 pieces of fabric on the batting, right side up and stitch together all around the outside edge. This is the front base of the holder.
2. Take the 8 - 6 in. x 8 in. pieces of fabric and fold them in half. These are your CD pockets. Topstitch across the 6 inch folded edge on each of them.
3. Next you will start sewing these pieces one at a time to the front base. Place the first piece one inch down from the top. Stitch down the side, across the open edge bottom and up the other side. It is a good idea to zig zag the bottom edge to keep the fabric from fraying as it isn't hemmed.
4. Add the next piece one inch below the first pocket.
5. Continue adding the rest of the pockets the same way.
6. Take the 2 in. x 19 in. pieces of strap fabric and fold them over. Stitch down the length in a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Turn them right side out. It you don't have a tube turner you can attach a safety pin to one end of the fabric and pull it through to the other end.
7.. Attach a safety pin to one end of the elastic.
8. Start pulling it through the tube until you reach the end of the elastic. Stitch across this end a couple of times to secure the elastic and fabric end.
9. Continue to gather the tube onto the elastic until you reach the other end. Stitch across this end a couple of time to secure the elastic and fabric together.
10. Pin the straps to the back fabric, 3 inches in from each side. Stitch across each end of the elastic to secure it to the fabric.
11. Now lay this piece right side up on the back of the front base. Stitch the two pieces together all around the outside edge.
12. And finally, take the bias tape and enclose the edge of the holder inside it. Stitch the bias tape all around the edge of the holder, slightly rounding the corners as you sew around. When you get to the end, cut the bias tape, leaving an extra inch. Fold the edge under 1/4 inch and finish sewing the seam and you are all done.
Finished Front
Finished Back
Now you are ready to slide it over your visor and fill it with your CD's.
Hope you enjoyed my tutorial today and find it useful.
