Needles-n-Pins Stitcheries: Fall Sewing Tutorials

Well Labor Day (at least in the USA) is just about here and with that comes the fall/autumn decorating and sewing. Last week we visited some shops with great fall fabrics so this week I thought I would share with you some of the fall sewing tutorials that I found on Pinterest

One of the first things I think about when I think of fall decorating is pumpkins and you can learn to make these cute pumpkins from Positively Splendid

Now we need something to put on the table to compliment our fall decor. This table runner shows more Halloween colors, but I think it could use any fall colored fabrics. It looks pretty simple to me. You can find this tutorial at 7LayerStudio.

Of course a big part of fall is all the colorful leaves. Just think of all the fabrics that show fall leaves. You can make some small leaf coasters from all the fabulous fabrics. Just click on over to TheQuiltingBoard for a tutorial and pattern for these.

And how about this beautiful pillow cover....I love the the looks of this pumpkin. It is made from jute and burlap. BeneathTheMagnolias has this tutorial.

Last, but not least we need something on the outside of our home so why not make a banner for the door. You can learn to do this with the tutorial from CraftaholicsAnonymous. I think I will make one of these for my front door. :)

Well with all of these tutorials I think I need to get busy and start making some stuff too. Yeah....that means a trip to the fabric store!! :)

Have fun with all your sewing projects!

Colleen :)

Shed whimsical light with illuminated dog shaped metal work from TheRusticBarn.  This Etsy artist up-cycles old metal into perfect country-chic décor.

Needles-n-Pins Stitcheries: Fall Fabrics

Well fall is definitely beginning to creep up on us up here in the north country. Trees are starting to lighten up some and a few bushes are getting a few yellow leaves on them. The fireweed is dying back so that is a sure sign of fall is just around the corner.

So with that said I thought maybe some of my fellow sewers out there are beginning to start their fall sewing projects so I thought I would show you some great Etsy shops that have some wonderful fall fabric.

Fall is my favorite time of the year and with fall/autumn comes the beautiful colors of the leaves. Mariascraft has this wonderful maple leaf pattern fabric with all the wonderful fall colors.

All the trees are in such beautiful colors in the fall and Meanderingthread has this pretty fabric of fall trees and the pretty colors of fall.

Of course acorns are a big part of the fall/autumn season so this fabric from Thespincycle can be used for whatever fall project you are working on.

And of course what is one of the great things about fall......yep......time for pumpkins and QuiltsFabricandmore has this great pumpkin fabric. Almost makes you want to make some pumpkin pies, but this is for later in the fall. :)

So whatever fall/autumn sewing project you are working on there are so many great and wonderful fabrics to work with. I think I am going to get busy on those few fall UFO's I need to finish up! :)

Have fun sewing!!

Colleen :)

Needles-n-Pins Stitcheries: Back To School

Well summer is winding down and schools are starting up soon. Some schools have already started and around here they start next week. It seems summers just fly by anymore and when you get my age they go into warp speed! :)

So...if some of you are getting ready to send those kiddos off to school how about checking out some of the artisans on Etsy for your "back to school" supplies. I was amazed at all the "goodies" there are.

The first thing that you need are school supplies and I would assume most of you have this task already done. So that your children can keep track of all their supplies why not use these labels from MarbellaPrintables

No matter if your child is in elementary school or high school they usually have a whole new wardrobe to start school. Why not have a few items that are personalized to them in their closet. I would think even the teenager might like that. StitchedForKids can personalize a shirt for you.

We need something to carry all of our supplies in and most kids I know use backpacks. So how about a personalized one for your children....EMEmbroidery has a lot of back packs and bags that would work for carrying their supplies.

Then the favorite time of the school day is "lunch"!! Pack your kids lunch in these bags from LilyPieBaby. They can be used for all ages and with the modern fabric design your teen might even use them. :)

So no matter what age your child is they still like new "stuff" to head off to school. Hope everyone has a great school year!!

Colleen :)

Jacquie's Up-Cycle Nation: Old School

August in Texas signals the slow end to summer- that gleeful time of year where parents celebrate the return of the kiddos to the classroom. As store shelves fill with fresh school supplies parents and grandparents can be overheard reminiscing about their own school days.  Fond memories of beloved teachers, playground rituals and of course- treasured supplies!
These Etsy sellers are ready to greet the nostalgic and keep the flames of yesteryear burning bright.

Nothing screams "back to school" more than vibrant black and yellow! Pick up an iconic school sign for home décor at VintageRoundUp. Looks great over the fish tank.

Who doesn't have a favorite school lunchbox in the memory bank? This space themed box can be scored at becaruns where youthful vintage fills the shop!

Perfect up-cycle idea from 30one!  Vintage student chalkboards used as modern props for photo shoots or everyday "old school" text messages. Favorite this shop for back to school cool ideas for all ages.
The clock!  Perhaps the most stared-at object in all of school lore! Grab this vintage classroom gem
from LookatthisHoney

Vintage text books are perfect for up-cycled mixed media projects or nostalgic reading.  These Modern Illustrating books, available at bestellevintage, contain helpful  instruction and kitschy images.
Head over to thriftypyg for educational paper chasing.  From  gummed labels to vintage flash cards, this store has it all!
